Why is Harley Street  famous?
Harley Street is seen as the centre of elite private health care. Located in well-to-do Marylebone, between Regent's Park and Wigmore Street. It became a fashionable place for the medical profession in the 1860's. Apparently Sir William Jenner was the first to take up residence there. He was the physician to Queen Victoria & the Prince of Wales and made the distinctions between the symptoms of typhus and typhoid. Florence Nightingale ran a nursing home for 'gentlewomen' there before she went to the Crimea in 1854.
