Why do people smoke?
Your unconscious mind is tremendously powerful and spends a lot of
time automating as much as it can to make your life as easy as possible.
Patterns of behaviour take a while to learn but once they are
established your mind does it all for you on 'auto-pilot'. This can be
extremely useful if the habit behaviour is something like judging the
distance and speed of cars when crossing the road, but your unconscious
mind can just as easily learn detrimental habits. Smoking is just a
negative behaviour that your mind has learnt very well.

The unconscious mind controls our habits. All habits are transferred
from your conscious mind to your powerful unconscious from when you
learned to walk - to writing - to smoking. Once you had achieved
consciously it becomes stored in your unconscious. This part of your
mind does not distinguish between a positive good habit ie walking or a
negative bad habit ie smoking - it just stores them as processes and
then protects them. It protects them for your safety otherwise you
might forget to walk when you're walking down a road. Your unconscious
